LO1:

Green Day

My Chemical Romance

Led Zeppelin

For my digipak I have chosen to make a new version of the Rock band Shinedown's album, Amaryllis. It will feature the entire album with quotes from the band in an interview, information on the band, reviews from genre-relative magazines, and also pictures and artwork of the band.
I will be focusing in particular on the song 'Enemies' by Shinedown, creating a buzz for the music video seen in Unit 29 with still images and a special feature of the music video included in the digipak when purchased.

Song lyrics:

Enemies - Shinedown

Listen up, there's not a moment to spare
It's quite a drop from the top
So how you feeling down there?
It’s a cold, cruel, harsh, reality
Caught, stuck, here with your enemies
Who do you think you are,
Tearing us all apart?

Where did you think you could go?
Cause everyone already knows,
It’s 20 to 1
Yeah, so you better run

You got the world on it’s knees
You’re taking all that you please
You want more
You want more

But you’ll get nothing from me
You’re like a burden to bear
You’re all the hate that we share

You want more
You want more

You’ll get nothing from me
But enemies

You started something that you just couldn't stop
You turn the ones that you love into an angriest mob
And the one last wishes that you pay for it
And there's,
No
Way to getting out of this
Who do you think you are
Tearing us all apart?

Where did you think you could go?
Cause everyone already knows,
It’s 20 to 1
Yeah, so you better run

You got the world on it’s knees
You’re taking all that you please
You want more
You want more

But you’ll get nothing from me
You’re like a burden to bear
You’re all the hate that we share

You want more
You want more

You’ll get nothing from me
But enemies

Photos to be potentially used in my digipak:

The font I will be wanting to use for my digipak will be either 'Stencil STD', 'Monot' or 'Gnuolane' as they give a very 'strong' looking feel, almost as though it's reinforced. Which gives great connotations towards the music video's theme of bullying and being a strong character.

For colours I plan to use black, grey and a deep red. These colours have a strong and vibrant feel to them, but in a dark manner, which works well with the mood of the video and song. My reasoning for not making the whole digipak in colour is that full-colour digipaks don't tempt the mind into focusing on certain aspects within photos; having greyscale with hints of red (red giving connotations of passion, anger and power) is more likely to make audiences interested in key points of the photos.

Above is a still from the Shinedown interview at, it will be part of my source for quotes and information on the band's album, how they've progressed in their musical career and what they see in their career's future as a group after the album's success.

Above are the existing photos I will be using in my digipak for 'Amaryllis'. They will be adapted in Photoshop to obtain the new feel of the digipak, to fit in with the key theme of greyscale and not trying to draw attention away from the bandmembers.

LO3:

This is the chosen logo that I used in the digipak for Amaryllis, it is a slight edit of the original design, however I have boosted the contrast by 15% and heightened the sharpness by 5%.

For this image I took the original Shinedown logo and changed most of the black aspects of it to grey, to fit in with the rest of the album's greyscale theme. However after comparing the two in the digipak to see which worked the best, I decided against using this particular edit.

For this photo I added greyscale at 89%, zoomed in slightly and tilted the orientation so as to make it look like a picture thrown on a table as a series of images from this clip are flashed on screen rapidly in the music video.

With this photo of the antagonist up in a tree, I merely zoomed in to capture the focus on the subject and adjusted the size of the picture, making it slightly smaller so it fits within the frame.

For the final font decision I decided to go with 'Stencil STD' after researching into a couple of other fonts for a powerful, eye-catching and strong impact. I was going to go for 'Molot' or 'Gnuolane' (below).

however they didn't give such qualities as much as 'Stencil STD' (below). 'Stencil STD' provides the digipak with a powerfully reinforced message as a font, however also with simplistic values. I manipulated the font in 'Adobe In-Design' by changing the font colour to white with black outlining, also to fit the digipak's greyscale theme.

LO4:

Above is the final design for my digipak for Shinedown's 'Amaryllis', it features a design for the album logo, a picture of a live performance and two pictures from the 'Enemies' music video. Along with said pictures, there is a tracklisting for the album, a magazine review and a quote from the band's lead vocalist, Brent Smith.
